## Purpose

rssatom.de is a simple online reader for RSS and Atom feeds. It is intended for users who want to check a feed, read a feed, enter a direct feed URL or let the application discover a feed from a normal website URL.

The site is not an editorial news portal and not a general-purpose feed proxy service. Dynamic reader results are generated from the URL entered by the user and are functional output pages.

## Features

- rssatom.de is free to use and does not require registration or a user account.
- Direct RSS or Atom feed URLs can be entered and read in the browser.
- Website URLs can be entered; the application then tries to discover a matching feed.
- Direct feed URLs are usually more precise when a website offers several possible feeds, for example separate feeds for posts, comments, categories or products.
- Feed content is displayed as HTML output.
- Typical feed information such as title, description, date, author, category, language, encoding and number of entries can be displayed.
- Relative links and image URLs from feeds can be resolved to absolute URLs.
- Typical encoding problems can be handled carefully where possible.
- Errors are shown as readable localized messages, not as raw parser or XML errors.

## Saved Feeds

The "My Feeds" feature stores saved feeds locally in the browser used by the visitor. rssatom.de does not create a personal server-side feed list for the user.

Saved feeds are not synchronized between browsers or devices. A feed saved in one browser does not automatically appear in another browser or on another device.

When "My Feeds" is opened, locally saved feeds can be checked for new or changed content. Users can also start this check manually from the "My Feeds" page.

These pages are not independent editorial main pages. They show the result of a concrete reader request. They may be technically reachable, but should not be understood as permanent main content of the website.

For English integrations, the preferred visible URL form is:

The `lang=en` query parameter may still be used internally for Ajax and technical reader contexts, but it should not be treated as a separate SEO URL.

## Own Application Feed

rssatom.de can provide its own feed of latest successful feed requests:

This RSS/XML feed is the machine-readable version of the public latest successful feed requests overview. It can be opened by feed readers and other tools. Depending on the browser or feed reader, it may be displayed directly or handled like a feed/download file.

This feed is a functional overview of selected successful public reader usage. It is not the main navigation of the site, not an editorial news feed from rssatom.de and not a complete or permanent archive of every reader request.

The public latest successful feed requests overview is separate from the normal reader. Not every feed read in the normal reader appears in the public overview.

## Crawling and Indexing

- The public main pages are the German homepage, the English homepage, the RSSAtom Wiki pages, the RSS elements pages, the FAQ pages and the latest successful feed requests overview pages.
- The sitemap lists these public main pages.
- The legal pages are intentionally not listed as main pages.
- Dynamic reader pages generally use `noindex,follow`.
- Exception: the own public reader view of `https://rssatom.de/recent-feeds` can use `index,follow` and canonicalize to its own reader URL, but it is not listed in the sitemap as an editorial main page.
- German and English pages use canonical URLs and `hreflang` alternates where appropriate.
