Radio’s presence in India dates back to the colonial era, quite notably the institution of the All India Radio beneath the tutelage of BBC’s Lionel Fielden.

With this, Bose had launched a struggle to free India from British rule under the banner of the provisional government-in exile through the latter part of the Second World War. In a collection of meetings between the INA leaders and the Japanese in 1943, it was determined to cede the leadership of the IIL and the INA to Bose. In January 1943, the Japanese invited Bose to lead the Indian nationalist motion in East Asia. After a three-month journey by submarine and a brief cease in Singapore, he reached Tokyo on eleven May 1943.
