RSS and SEO - what a feed really does

An RSS feed can help search engines and other systems discover new content in a structured way. It is not an automatic ranking booster.

What a feed can do

A feed describes current content in a clear, machine-readable form. That can be useful when systems want to notice new URLs, titles and updates.

For users, a feed is another way into the website. For publishers, it is an open publishing channel alongside HTML pages and sitemaps.

What a feed does not promise

There is no solid basis for claiming that RSS alone automatically improves Google rankings.

SEO still depends on many factors: content, technical quality, internal links, speed, search intent, usefulness and indexability.

Good practice

A clean feed, an up-to-date sitemap and clear internal links complement each other. Together they make a website easier to understand for people and machines.
